The testo 405i Smart Probe hot-wire anemometer is a wireless instrument for measuring air flow velocity, temperature, and volume flow. It is equipped with a telescopic shaft which extends to 15" for easy in-duct testing. You can reliably determine timed and multipoint flow traverses. Users can read the measurements using the testo Smart Probes App installed on their smart device. The app lets users configure duct dimensions to calculate volume flow measurements. Use the testo 405i along with the testo 605i thermo-hygrometer to determine cooling and heating performance. The testo 405i works on smart devices with either Android or Apple operating systems. The testo Smart Probes App is a powerful and easy-to-use tool. It allows you to remotely read measurements from up to six (6) Smart Probes and easily document/report the results. Automatic calculations make it a snap! All measurement data is displayed as instrument readings, tables, or graphs. The measurements can be quickly saved as PDF or Excel files. The App creates custom reports which can be saved and/or shared by email. All your data can be stored and retrieved saving you hours of time consuming paperwork!

In simple terms, a Smart Probe is a smartphone measuring instrument. Each of the compact measuring instruments fulfills an entirely specific measuring task in this respect. The testo 410i vane anemometer (smartphone anemometer) for example measures flow velocities. The testo 605i hygrometer (iPhone hygrometer) in turn measures humidity, amongst other things. What is common to them all, is operation via the testo Smart Probes App.

I purchased this as I was troubleshooting a low flow of ~ 42 CFM for hotel rooms. I selected it as it could handle the very low flow rates I expected. It was very inexpensive versus other units that could measure these levels. It worked well; as I got used to the cell phone interface, I became more impressed. I find it very helpful to have an Excel file format as an output. It is much more professional to have a time sequence of measurements in the final report versus single datum points. I had never heard of Testo before this purchase; overall, I'm impressed. The directions aren't great. The company appears to be German and it seems like the English version is a direct translation. Not a huge issue, but it does take a little time to understand the capabilities. Overall, a nice product

Works but requires large holes

The unit works great and links to app and all. But I don't see myself drilling 5 or more 1/2" holes in residential or light commercial system's ductwork.

Works well and has gradients for insertion that one can feel with the probe. One other plus is the hot wire can be covered with the swiveling end.
