Weller WP120 Soldering Iron - 120 Watts, with WDH10T Stand

Higher power pencil for the WR3000M

5.0

I'm using this pencil for small production runs of boards where I need to solder the head of a machine screw to the PCA. Previously I was using a WP80, and the new WP120 cuts my processing time about 40%. The contact area between the heater and tip on the WP120 is much larger because the heater inserts into the tip instead of butting up like on the WP80, and the higher power is getting into my joint much more effectively. Even though this pencil has 50% more power, the handle is more comfortable to hold during work like this because I can move more quickly and I think the handle is not getting as hot as the WP80 does on the same kind of work. The stand is the same stand. The only negative criticism I can offer is that the molded support on the stand that holds up the handle of the pencil when in the stand is easily broken. After 9 years in service, some mishap on the bench resulted in a broken stand for my WP80 this last year, so while I was ordering the WP120, I also bought a replacement stand from TEquipment. I got the replacement stand right away, as well as a mitt-full of tips I ordered, but the WP120 took some weeks. It was worth the wait.
