I am still learning all the features of my DS1052E. I am using this DSO for home projects as I am a retired former technician and also a former aircraft pilot. I had and still have a Tektronix 2215 and in its time it was a good scope. However, all the miniaturization and microprocessor goodies have made the new scopes amazing with the information they present and the storage capablities. I am extremely impressed with my purchase and with the price TEquipment offered. I would recommend this oscilloscope and TEquipment to everyone.

By this point you've probably read all about this scope. Its just like they say, its a great scope with tons of features. Its not built like an old Tektronix, but it gets the job done well for a whoooole lot less $.
Probably not the best for travel as it seems to have a lighter than desirable build strength, but totally great for the home, or light professional use.
It does kinda wig out and glitch every so often, but its brief and rarely interrupts.
IF you need a decent cheap scope with tons of features, buy this .

This mid priced scope has everything you need on a project bench including the ability to generate wave forms that can be saved to USB and transferred to a computer for forums or blogs. Compact size does not take up a lot of bench space either! Very accurate too!

Compact 50 MHz Scope

I use the scope primarily to debug hardware and software issues with my EBike projects. 50MHz is plenty of bandwidth for a 16 MHz processor. It is light and portable for use both indoors and outside. The image capture feature allows taking documentation scope shots and putting them in speadsheets and Doc files. So far I have managed to use the delayed trigger and signal history features to debug problems without resorting to a more complex logic analyzer.

Fantastic DSO for people just getting started in electronics at the level that would require a DSO, or who only need a low-bandwidth 2-channel solution. Interface seems to be defaulted to Chinese on some units, easily fixable with menu system.

Seems to have been supplanted by the more modern 4-channel DS1054Z.

DS1052E - a versatile tool!

This scope has been around for a long time and as such many people have had to chance to create add-ons which provide features that were not intended by the manufacture. First, although this is a 50MHz scope, there are field updates that double the bandwidth to 100MHz. But, I actually bought this scope because someone wrote a program to take the FFT output, saved to a file, to produce a spectrum analyzer capable of 500MHz bandwidth. The memory depth can be set to 1M sample depth - so nice to be able to expand a waveform and see details that are easy to miss otherwise. Then there are the programmable digital filters on the inputs and all the other math features designed into this instrument that make it a really great lab tool. Everyone should have one or two at this price.

The first scope I ordered was defective. The people at Rigol were very helpful in finding the problem and responded quickly. TEquipment shipped me a new scope and it works well.

This is a good scope. It performs exactly as specified and is one of the best values in this price range. The Rigol DS1054Z (costs $70 more) came out a week after I ordered the 1052, but I don't need the extra features of the DS1054Z - the bigger screen would be nice though. If all you need is a basic scope, get the Rigol 1052E. It is highly recommended by many qualified people.

Yes, this scope is a bit old at this point, but for the price point, especially with the discounts tequipment.net give for eevblog members!

I've since upgraded to a DS2000 series scope, but honestly, I kind of miss the simplicity of the DS1000 scope. It was quick to power up, quick to get a trace, quick to manipulate the trace, etc. I'd HIGHLY recommend buying one if you're looking for a scope at a price point.

The go-to hobbyist scope. I didn't think the UI was great but it could get the job done. If you can't spend more then $400 this would be OK, but I'd look at some of the other Chinese scopes (atten, etc) with more features.

If you can spend a little more the Rigol DS2072A (have this at home) and Rigol DS1104Z are much much better.

If you can't afford to spend more than $400, then this is a great scope for the beginner. The scope is a bit dated/obsolete now, though, with the introduction of the DS1074Z for only ~$250 more.
