Rigol MSO2302A-S 300 Mhz Dual-Channel Mixed Signal Oscilloscope with 16-channel Logic Analyzer

5.0

This instrument combines the functions of a general-purpose 300 Mhz dual-channel analog scope with a 16-channel digital logic analyzer and protocol decoder all in one, at a price point and a packed feature set that is extremely competitive. I purchased this unit for my home electronics hobby use and wanted to stretch the capabilities of the instrument as far as I could with my limited budget; this far exceeds my original goals and performs any function I could possibly desire within my range of interests. Rigol offered a deal that included upgrades from the standard 14 to 56 million memory points in a single capture, advanced edge triggering capture, RS-232, I2C, and SPI serial protocol decoding, and CAN bus decoding all in a package worth over $1100 at no additional charge; total package was $1259. I have only owned the unit for slightly less than a month but so far I have used this instrument to decode and debug RS-232 and I2C circuits on Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects, diagnosed a signal noise issue on my Ford F-150 using the CAN bus decoder function, used the 16-channel logic analyzer during design and testing of a stepper motor sequencer, and used the analog signal capture capability and triggering options in the 25 Mhz range to diagnose and repair a CB radio. It includes a LAN network interface and I have experimented a bit with the remote computer setup and control - very nice feature. Basic controls are all clearly labeled, the menu structure is very easy to navigate, and setup is a breeze. The unit feels surprisingly heavy for its size but sits well on the bench and is very quiet; it runs on AC only (no battery option) but has a carry handle and is portable enough to carry to the job site. On-screen vertical and horizontal signal display options provide a ton of data supplemented by a very readable font to show and analyze the waveform characteristics. These can be pre-set for repeated captures, or the unit can be easily re-set to default conditions with a couple button presses. Some advertising photos show a 16-channel breakout board as part of the 16-channel logic analyzer package; this breakout board is NOT included with the unit, but it is very easy to build one to suite. One slight irritation is that the power switch is a soft switch and the unit remains partially powered up even when the power switch is in the off position; no apparent way to change this but Rigol can probably change that with a software upgrade. These two items are about the only negative aspects I have found with the unit so far; otherwise I am extremely satisfied. For the price, this feature-packed scope package simply out-performs any other 300 Mhz competition.

Excellent mixed signal scope with all the options I'll ever need! on May 07, 2021 I found this helpful (0)
