Perfect for large gauge wire/heavy ground planes

Just the thing needed for heavy wires or large PCB ground planes. Smaller tips just can't transfer enough heat into large thermal masses without cooling too much. The result is a huge heat soak of your parts, which ironically can make it MORE likely you'll damage them. You're better off with a bit more wattage, a bit more temperature, and a big thermal mass tip like this one to quickly heat the target and finish the job without leaving the soldering iron on it for too long.

The availability of this tip, and a couple others, was a primary deciding factor in my choosing this Hakko soldering station.
