I've been reviewing different high wattage irons to replace my hakko fx-888D and this Ersa seemed like a good candidate. Yes, their unpadded cardboard packaging is weird, and my unit arrived with the front panel having a small bend on it. I really like how compact it is, heat up time, and decent thermal capacity. Able to heat up ground planes very well. What I didn't end up liking was how after a bit of usage the handle was a little to warm for my comfort, and it doesn't automatically go to sleep/standby in the stand. There is a timeout for safety, but I much prefer sleep/standby mode. I wouldn't recommend this for people like me (hobbyists), but it definitely has it's place in actual assembly and manufacturing probably.
