EMI Filter & Quasi-Peak Detector Kit (DSA800 Series Only)
EMI-DSA800 option provides Quasi-Peak detector and EMI filter (200 Hz, 9 kHz, 120 kHz, -6 dB bandwidth). Quasi-Peak detection is a weighted form of peak detection. For each data point, the detector detects the peaks within the specified time interval, weights the peaks detected using circuit with specified charge and discharge structures as well as the display time constant specified in the CISPR Publication 16 standards and display the result. By default, the instrument uses Gauss filter and will switch to EMI filter automatically if Quasi-Peak detector is selected. Press BW/Det at the front panel. Then, press Det Type to select Quasi-Peak detector. At this point, the instrument automatically changes the filter type to EMI and the Filter Type menu is grayed out and disabled. EMI-DSA800 option is used in electromagnetic interference test

Gives better filtering for doing pre-EMI testing. It does add to the overall cost of the machine but the base DSA815 model is ideal low cost entry to EMC pre-compliance testing but factor in this additional cost when deciding on a machine to select. Overall I am pleased with the DSA815-TG and this upgrade. It has allowed me to test and improve power supply designs to reduce EMI emissions considerably. Money well spent.

EMI-DSA800 - Performance Enhancement at a price
Adding this accessory to the DSA 815-TG unleashes the power the hardware already possesses. The enabling of the EMI filter and the increased Resolution Bandwidths makes for more accurate measurements at low signal levels. For the price point of this product the performance level is satisfactory. The Rigol marketing strategy is to mask these features till additional $$$ are paid for the accessory to be software-enabled. So, when one is comparison-performance-shopping for spectrum analyzers, these additional costs need to be factored in.
