NW Instruments NAT96

This is a good sturdy tripod. The action in extending the legs could be smoother, but the clamps lock securely. Also, the elevator is a two piece with the smaller shaft fitting into the larger shaft. When loosened to adjust either shaft, the whole assembly is wobbly, but once again the tension bolts tighten the each segment - locking it in place. I'm using this for a custom application with a pretty heavy load (20 lbs), and it's solid as a rock once everything is set and locked/tightened down. Couple other points worth noting: - The steel spikes at the bottom of the legs can be unscrewed and replaced with something else male threaded at 3/8"-16 (I put heavy duty 2" rubber castor wheels on it for my application) - The top plate can be removed if necessary. Bottom Line: For the money, this tripod works as well as similar models costing three times as much. It's a mess when loose, but a rock when tightened.
