I keep it at close distance (4-6") and the lower speed setting is enough for fumes extraction. At higher speed its a bit too noisily and I prefer to keep it closer and quiter. I'd appreciate handles, but probably I wont move it often

Hard to put a price on your health, but Hakko did it. For me, what makes this unit worth the extra dollars is the sensors to indicate when to change the filters and the build quality. For example, it is mentioned in the manual that "This product includes such features as electrically conductive plastic parts and grounding of the unit as measures to protect the device to be soldered from the effects of static electricity." I like the attention to detail.
Additionally, I have ordered a fair number of items from various retailers and this was by far the best shipping packaging that I have seen. I would highly recommend both this unit and TEquipment.

Hakko FS430-Kit Quiet, Efficient

Replaced an older other brand unit. The unit head (rectangle) is used withing 8 inches of the work piece on low (our usual setting) and does a fine job of removing fumes and it is QUIET. Even on medium, it is easy to work around for an extended period of time. On high, even the smokiest rosin solder job while accidentally melting away PVC insulation because you are watching your phone instead of where your iron is, is effortlessly suctioned away by thr hakko. The new style of hose is easy to adjust, but it is not as stiff as ther old-style loc hose. You will probably want to add some support if it is a long run off the bench, or find an old loc hose. Added a second hose and the unit still performs as described. The unit is easy to move around and looks better thn the old metal cans, if that is important. Regular use in rework for a few months and the filter is looking good and performing well. The prefilter has been replaced once, so far.

Works very well. I have it setup and it is nice to seek the fumes getting pulled away under the microscope. I only had one issue with the kit portion. Hook up tip - It took me a long time to figure out how to attach the end piece that connects to the FA430 to the hose. Turn out the hose is adjustable not just in length but in diameter. By twisting the hose (hold one side tight and turning with the other hand) the hose will expand or contract. I had to contract the hose a bit to fit in the adapter. I almost called tech support before figuring that out. It's not easy to see when watching the videos but after the 3rd time, I noticed his knuckles turn and that was the key to make it work.

The kit cost a fair bit and it was hard to swallow the price at the time, but I wouldn't live without one now. You can solder for hours in an enclosed room and not smell a bit of it. No flux or fumes, it just contains it all, and the filters last quite a while. Having one of these gave me complete confidence I wasn't going to damage my lungs or health when assembling boards at home, and I'd think of it as required for any workplace.

Your Health is the most valuable thing, and this device is making my job more pleasant. I just solder when I have to do some prototypes boards and some troubleshooting, but before I used to have some headaches because the fumes, and I tried some cheaper smoke absorbers but they never worked for me. This thing could literally be saving your life. I won't solder without it. The tube on this is like a bendy straw on steroids. It will hold its shape and stay where you put it. I like the volume of the low setting but I use the medium so I have a little room to work. I run mine through a power strip so I can remotely switch it on/off.

I've never owned a fume extractor before so I can't compare it to anything else, but what I can tell you is for being such a compact piece of equipment it works excellent, it keeps any solder smoke and fumes from going into the air. I also let my daughter paint her nails in front of it so she's not breathing in any fumes. I would definitely recommend this product. It's on the expensive side but we'll worth the price and your health..

I've been using this item for a month or so and it works very well to keep pollutants from soldering out of the air. The hose and duct do tend to fall apart if you try to move them, but if left in place they are fine. The actual 430 itself though makes soldering indoors with closed windows possible, so you can't get better than that I was hoping but no one had ever mentioned that detail with certainty. I wouldn't be able to practice my hobby without this.

We tried some of the cheaper filters that just blow air through a sponge, but those were not effective at all at removing soldering fumes. This unit is reasonably priced and completely removes soldering fumes from the air. It's fairly quiet, but still moves plenty of air to suck fumes away from the soldering area.

I did lots of research to find the right smoke absorber- and this is it!! Love the settings so if you are soldering through-hole and emitting more smoke than SMD, you can increase the power. The house no longer smells like solder and I am no longer worried about breathing the smoke!
