I live in Texas and there is often extreme weather, which is unerveing but to get the best out of a bad situation I record bad weather, rain, fog, heavy winds, thunderstorms, a few weeks ago I even got a neat snow storm video. If I had the Flir I would set it up next to my normal camera and occassionaly wave it infront of the lens so people could also see the thermal imageing of the weather phenomana on the environment around it, also I think I would have a better chance of getting my vids on the weather channel. Im not one of those people who gets infront of the camera and trys to make the show about themself nor do I narate except in extremely rare and unuseual conditions, perfering to keep the audio track of the weather to the sound of the weather, I find them more relaxing that way. Thanks for allowing my submission, happy holidays. Tom.

Being able to utilize the Flir i7 would help me expedite completion of the free heating and heat loss work I do for people unable to afford it due to job or retirement income loss, (mostly in the retirement sector.) Instead of checking temperature variations, on radiators, for instance, with a thermometer, Id be able to see them much quicker with the Flir i7. Instead of having to spend time drilling and re-insulating around windows and doors, Id be able to see if its necessary to beging with before spending that much time. Every little bit of time (and money!) I can save helping a family stay warm without having to spend so much is a little more time I can spend moving on to the next home and the next family and money to perhaps be able to add more people on my schedule. I do this work pro bono, so all the money I spend on parts, tools, transportation is money I take out of my own pocket. The roughly $3000.00 is something I simply cant afford out of pocket right now, but believe me, if I could afford it, Id buy one in a minute. I cant believe this drawing is being held! Its like a miracle that its being even offered... that alone is a hopeful thing. The government gives me NO money for this. I did heating and air conditioning work for about 20 years so its the best way I can figure to give what I can to help those in need. I just believe every one should do whatever they can to help those in need during the rough times so I do this. Having the help of a Flir i7 would be a godsend. Thank you and thankk you for giving one of these fine instruments to whomever it is that really needs one the most, as I know you will... its awesome of you, (even if its not me!)

I have P65 Flir and a Ti 30. I like the P65 with its reporter 7 software it makes life so much easier. I do thermal imaging on Navy ships that are in for repair. I make the first image as found condition and the second image as repaired condition. The P65 allows me to get in close with the camera and not but my self in contact with any electrical items. Its a great camera that with the right Len will do a lot of work for you.

i would like to use on Hospital, the mold detection on clean rooms are scential. i had seen mold increasing where humidity starts. so, with this camera, can detect humidity and probably mold colonies on walls and ceilings. detection on infrared will need the heating of wall or cieling by convecting air, then, let inspected items to cool off slowly. when this happens will detect the thermal diferences of humidity and this can reveal posible mold location.

I am the Training Coordinator for PI NE (The paranormal investigators of new england). We are a non profit group that performs paranormal investigations with in the new england area. At current we do not have a valuable piece of equipment. (the thermal imager). This is vital for our group. Our investigations are free and we are all voulenteers. The Flir I7 would be an asset to our group. Do to confidentiality of our clients I am un able to mention specific cases I have worked on were the thermal was of great use. I can say because it sees heat it can and has shown forms, and prints, and the like which would not have been seen by visible eye. I have listed my cell as good way of contact. Thank you for concidering my vote. Michael A. Mannings

We do a lot of injection molding that requires the temperatures of the mold bases to be accurate. We have no current method that would get use the ease of use and accuracy that the Flir i7 would give us. We would be able to control our processes more accurately thus producing better parts.

I live in northern minnesota where we face some of the fiercest winters in the country. In recent years the price of heating ones home has doubled and tripled. Using a thermal imager allows me to offer my customers a way to save on their utilities by finding points of heat loss without cutting into the walls or climbing into the attic. They also save by installing insulation only in the areas that need it, thus avoiding major remodeling costs that may not be necessary. Thermal imaging also helps me find areas of water intrusion which leads to deterioration or mold growth. Often these areas could not be detected any other way. The Flir adds value to my home inspection service because clients know its not a service they could do on their own. Theres just such a wide range of things I need the Flir for: determining the condition of in-slab heat, failing flashing, leaking toilets, appliances, etc., conditions conducive to mold growth, existence and operation of insulation, electrical malfunctions.... the list goes on. Home inspection is primarily a visual exercise so my eyes are my most important tool. If I cant see something I cant report on it to my client. The Flir is really a cornerstone of my home inspection business.

FLIR infrared technology is an important building maintenance tool that is often overlooked by building maintenance professionals. I would use the FLIR i7 to enhance my inspection detection abilities and the level of service options available for end consumers from residential homeowners to commercial building operators. The use of infrared cameras to detect temperature differentials easily increases the visibility of problems such as, hot electrical wiring/equipment, moisture and air intrusion points, HVAC distribution systems (including radiant floor and ceiling systems), missing insulation, etc,. Through FLIR’s infrared camera lens such problems are readily visible, and it provides pinpoint accuracy which reduces the “hunt & peck” method of finding problems, taking repairmen directly to the trouble location. Proper training from FLIR further enhances an inspector’s ability to understand what the camera shows them, greatly increasing the value of the camera, and the inspection to the end consumer. A mother recently reported that her 11-year old son had run away from home and was hanging out at an apartment used by drug dealers. She had reported her son as a runaway and he also had a juvenile court warrant for his arrest. As she was pointing out the apartment where she he was staying she suddenly pointed to a boy riding toward us on a bicycle as being her son. I walked up to the two boys riding toward us and asked them if they were the runaway boy. Her son denied being the runaway. His mother pointed to one of the boys and said Thats him! He took off on his bicycle. I drove after her son in my patrol car. He rode his bicycle across the street and jumped off of it. I got out of my patrol car and chased the 11-year around and around an apartment building. He ducked under trees and bushes where I couldnt follow. The boy finally climbed under a fence and hid in some bushes in a very thickly wooded area. Other officers and I searched the woods for him but couldnt find him. We called the fire department to come out with their Flir thermal imaging camera and they found him immediately hiding in the bushes. I told him that we could see him with the Flir thermal imaging camera and he crawled out of the bushes and surrendered. His mother really gave him a piece of her mind before he went to juvenile hall.

I am interested in being able to offer my customers a more thorough home inspection, by being able to incorporate thermal imaging into the typical home inspection. Thus, enhancing my products and services, and providing the customers additional safety information that is not otherwise visible. This tool would also allow me to obtain proper training and become a proficient thermographer, which would hopefully provide a good basis to enter into other job despcriptions incorporating the thermal imager, such as energy audits, understanding that an equipment upgrade would likely be required.

I have being looking at Flir thermal imagers for over a year now as well as other brands, and all I have to say is read the information talk to a dealer and you will totally understand why it is NOT an option to even think about any thermal imager other than Flir! I would like to purchase one of these pieces of equipment to expand my renovation company! I think that Flir being the best out there hands down would complete my inventory as well as complement my company as an added feature to my already busy reno company. It will give customers piece of mind when I go in and show them exactly were the problems are and what I can do to fix them. Even if I dont get the job at least people will see the areas that need attention and areas that can wait if money is tight. The prices on the equipment is very reasonable and competitive if not better than their competitor if there is one and it includes training and understanding for the equipment you purchase. Also Flir offers some free sessions to help you understand the equipment and decide what camera/imager is right for you if you are getting into this type of work. They have great information on their website on all of the equipment they sell and you will see exactly what I am talking about if you go to flir.com and explore the equipment. I know that this is only a contest for U.S residents but feel I want to let people know what a Canadian thinks of the equipment thanks for you time Joe!

Im the Technology Integration Services Manager for our IT systems design group. I would absolutely love to own a Flir i7 with which I could analyze our computer server room/network racks for any potential thermal heat dissipation issues. We have a healthy mix of big iron, dense server racks, and blade servers which can challenge our server rooms 25 tons of A/C units, especially if an A/C unit is temporarily removed from service for maintenance. The Flir i7 would help to better see and demonstrate the thermal issues to upper management and sysadmin staff for education and mitigation. Why would a true professional use any product other than a Flir?!?

I am recently laid off (displaced by outsourcing) and I am trying to learn a trade that can not be outsourced to another nation. Home inspection has always been an interest of mine. I would LOVE to purchase a Flir i7 camera but I can not afford these prices, so I figured Id try to enter my goals here and see if I can win one... If I was able to obtain a FLIR camera then I could learn how to use it within the realm of creating a home inspection business and begin a new career. I live in the Charlotte, NC area and there is an unending supply of new and old construction that I am confident could use this type of service. As time goes on Id be able to afford to purchase another camera and hire some help. I am getting ahead of myself. However, that is the goal Id like to achieve. Ive been reading about these cameras and the reason I think Flir is better than the rest is because of the wide range of features available for home inspection usage in a compact hand-held device. The i7 seems to be the best camera out there, for a start-up such as I hope to create. From there, who knows? I can see a lot of other applications to put the i7 to use but for now my sights are on trying to obtain one for a one-man startup, in hopes of getting myself back working again! Thanks for the opportunity! Anthony

FLIR always seems to lead the way in innovative infrared products. FLIR is certainly becoming more of a household name with uncooled imagers, and has become a recognizable brand name with regards to product quality. As a police officer working in a small department, a purchase such as a FLIR i7 unit would fall on the individual officer, such as myself. At this time, such a purchase is beyond my financial means. I currently work midnight shifts and our tribal departments jurisdictional coverage covers three counties. The general geography of the areas that I patrol is wooded flatlands with various rivers and occasional hill ranges. I regularly participate in manhunts through wooded areas searching for suspects without the benefit of any kind of night vision or thermal imaging camera. If I had a camera such as the FLIR i7 at my disposal, I would regularly deploy it in manhunts, search and rescue operations, and suspect location. I would also use it to determine which vehicles in a parking lot matching suspect description were still warm and recently driven prior to my arrival. In suspect search scenarios, I would also us it to find warmer terrain where a suspect was recently hiding, and thus leaving a heat signature. Being the only officer among approximately 12 agencies located within my jurisdictional boundaries with a FLIR unit at my disposal, I would also use this as a mutual aid device, assisting other police, fire, and medical agencies by deploying the imager in the field at agency request. I have all of my credentials on file should you need to verify my officer status or employment. Thanks for you attention, Andrew Selfridge

Flir is my first choice for a thermal imaging camera because of the companys reputation for quality and durability. I would use the camera for both mold inspections and also regular home inspections if the client is interested. I also am interested in a sideline business of doing veterinary thermal scans for our local holistic vet. Thermal scans of horses and larger animals who cannot be easily moved and also for wildlife and exotic pets. The report will be emailed to clients and their choice of vets to interpret the results and form a treatment plan. As far as I can tell, I would be the first to offer this service in my area. I would be interested in both the basic training and advanced training in case there are applications I havent thought of yet.

We would put a Flir i7 to humane use by implementing it in our aniimal rescue programs. Often times we are unable to locate feral cats (which move at night/sleep in day) to capture, spay/neuter, vaccinate and release back into the wild. Altering is a humane way of stopping the homeless animal cycle-ferals can not reproduce and live fairly normal life span and eventually the colony of cats dies out naturally. A Flir i7 would assist us in finding these feral animals so we could temporarily capture them. We also are often called in to assist senior citizens and handicapped people who have had wild life that has moved into their homes. (Ie into their walls, chimney, attic, etc.) A Flir i7 would assist us in finding these aniamls to remove them. Owning a Flir i7 would be good for our community as well as countless animals we could help.

I have been a owner of a home inspection company for three years. I have been wanting to take my company to the next level. The Flir i7 would do just that. I do not have the capital to purchase one. I became a full time inspector in April of this year when my employer of 18+ years closed. Adding this service to my clients would really help me and my company. Thank you Ryan

Im just getting into the infared inspection arena. Im going to participate in the wednar this Friday. In all my research the FLiR seems to always come up as the best purchase and abilities. Thats all I can tell you at this point. I want to get the training and certification befrore the end of this year. Thanks, Tim Howell

I would use a thermal imager to push my small business into the thermal imaging arena for use during home inspections. I feel that this tool would set me apart from ALL competition in my area, and would make me THE go to guy.

I used the flir camera for hvac diagnosis. I found missing insulation in walls, hot spots (air leaks) from faulty ductwork ect… I then realized there are so many uses for this camera that any contractor or service person should own one. I found defective circuit breakers, plumbing leaks , termite colonies in walls, even undersized or overloaded wiring in ceilings and walls, I even found water intrusion behind stucco (the stucco didn’t even have any cracks ) and the trail led up to the soffit and gutter system. It saved me a lot of time and the home owners were very grateful for the low cost repair. Without the camera I could not have found the problems stated above. I think that anyone who is serious about being a service technician should have a flir system for documentation and trouble shooting. I think sales personnel should have one as well. The pictures from these cameras show clearly the type of problems and most customers are awe struck by the clarity. I have never had a customer put me off after showing them the resolution to a long standing problem. Without this camera I couldn’t do half the jobs I am currently doing. Thanks for such a great product!

I would use this infrared camera during home inspections to find moisture issue, plumbing leaks, electrical hot spots, energy deficiencies. It is very important in my business to find issues without causing any damage to the home being inspected. By finding more defects and providing a superior inspection service, this would help me increase my fees and make more income. Thermal imaging would also me market my service as a superior service and gain a real market advantage.

I will use the i7 to upgrade and enhance the services my company offers homeowners, buyers, sellers and businesses in the thermal imaging technology. By adding this piece of equipment to our arsenal we can take a quantum leap forward and move beyond the next level of customer service. The face of property inspections is changing almost daily and FLIR and Infrared are on the cutting edge of this new wave. The reason I like and prefer the FLIR line of products is precisely because FLIR has a long and proud history and reliable track record in the Infrared business. As an ex Navy aviator i had experience using FLIR on our Anti-submarine / Surveillance aircraft. The FLIR name is one that can be trusted for rugged durability, dependabilty and high quality.

The Flir i7 Compact Thermal Imager Camera would be a real addition to my equipment tool case. It will allow me to offer additional services in my Home Inspection business. I would be able to do an Energy Audits not just home inspections. I could give my client more to look for in their inventment on the new home. I look at the Flir i7 Compact Thermal Imager Camera as a real asset to my business. The Flir i& is the thing for me being take I just getting started in this field. Equipment like this is normally a little to epense for a starter and with the Flir i7 I can come out with more to give clinet needing not only home inspections but energy audits just for the home to be weatherize year around. Yes, the Flir i7 Compact Thermal Imager Camera would be a welcome addition to my tool bag.

As I do my day to day job, people stop me with intrest of the technology. Because this (IR) is a passion, I will always stop and educate. Because I work for a company that believes in selling a GREEN (pink!) product we should start with the employees, therefore I have a great oppertunity for some more educating. I use the Flir product after getting rid of another brand and can do so much more now. I guess to answer the question of what would I do with the Flir i7?..... It would be a great tool for education to my fellow craftman!
- Cary

I would use it on EVERY inspection while wearing a sandwich sign with the name of your company on it.

In my research I have discovered that Flir offer a better product for the price. Also their products tend to be designed for more field or hard use. As a home inspector who is considering entering into the IR market I can see the value of such a product in some of our more in depth type or forensic inspections.
