Comparison Summary
FLIR is one of the biggest names in thermal imaging - the company supplies IR cameras to law enforcement, military, and search and rescue operators around the globe. In these applications, thermal imaging is a very effective tool for keeping personnel safe, locating fugitives or lost persons, and saving lives. With thermal imaging for firefighting applications, rescue teams are able to see through smoke no matter the conditions and locate dangerously hot areas within a fire. Being able to do these two things can help keep firefighters rescue trapped or injured persons more quickly while keeping the firefighters themselves away from dangerous areas.
The FLIR K1 is the latest firefighting TIC from FLIR. This thermal imaging camera offers 160x120 pixel infrared resolution and 100mK thermal sensivitity, ensuring that users are able to visually detect accurate temperature variations on-screen. The K1 also includes FLIR MSX technology which embosses visual details over thermal images, allowing for better scene recognition and helping users to avoid obstacles in unstable structure fires. This camera can measure temperatures up to 400°C (752°F) and can operate in temperatures up to 115°C (239°F). Battery life during standard use is 5.5 hours. The camera has also been rated to IP67 against water and debris ingress and has been tested to withstand a 2 meter (6.6ft) drop onto a hard surface like concrete.
The FLIR K2 is a tried-and-true firefighting TIC which has served first responders well for many years. This camera shares many similarities with the new K1 - the K2 also has 160 x 120 thermal resolution, 100mK thermal sensitivity, and FLIR MSX technology built-in. The K2 has also been rated IP67 water and dust proof and is also tested to withstand a 2 meter (6.6ft) drop. As for the differences, this camera can measure temperatures up to 500°C (932°F) and can operate in temperatures up to 260°C (500°F). Battery life during standard use is 4 hours. The K2 also features a larger form factor with a 3-inch screen and a larger, simpler button interface - this can be an advantage when using heavy gloves.
Overall, both cameras will help firefighting teams stay safer and protect more lives and property. Both are affordably priced and are backed by FLIR's strong support network. Want to know more? Give us a call at 877-571-7901. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.
