One of a kind current probe
5.0
The i-Prober's ability to measure current in traces is amazing. Very helpful in board debugging. Great as a regular current probe as well. Thanks for a great tool!

Useful Albeit the Price
4.0
I was hesitant to pull the trigger on the Iprober, since it is quite pricey. However, it seems worth it based on its capability to measure current without breaking a circuit and also the possibility to use it as a regular current probe as well. The EEVblog video was very useful to understand the limitations and measurement uncertainties.

Amazing Probe
5.0
I was so hesitant to buy this probe, but it was worth every penny. The directional measurement capabilities helped me to have a major breakthrough on the project I was working on. Highly recommend it.

Current Probe with added features
5.0
Current probes able to measure DC current and have some reasonable bandwidth are not cheap. I like this probe for its price point and added features. It measures DC current using the toroid attachment within the specified accuracy of /- 5%. I saw 3% accuracy measuring 800mA DC load. The added feature of being able to make qualitative measurements without breaking a trace and adding a wire loop was nice for quick analysis of currents without damaging the PCB. Having the 5Mhz bandwidth allow for analyzing currents in most boost / buck regulators.
Using the positional current probe feature to measure current through a trace, you must follow the instructions in the manual to get the best performance out of the probe.
Overall I feel it was money well spent.

TTi Iprober Contact Current Sensor/Probe
4.0
The TTi Iprober is a medium to high quality product. Used as a general purpose current probe around a wire with the clip it measures accurately and with decent bandwidth. Using a function generator square wave the rise time was in the 50 nSec range implying 7 MHz bandwidth which is comfortably above the 5 MHz bandwidth spec.
It is a little sensitive to the position of the wire in the clip. With 1 Adc flowing in an AWG #22 wire I could see on the order of 2-5% shifts in the measure level by moving the wire around in the hole. Just the wire location not the angle of the probe itself.
When used as a contact probe to see the current in a PC board trace it does work but it is a bit finicky. First you have to calibrate the probe which is easy, quick but in this mode the Earth's magnetic field will show measurable dc offsets that change with the orientation of the probe. So, you have to be precise in holding the orientation while taking a measurement.
All in all we have used it for a couple of weeks and the engineers in the lab like it.
Compared to a "standard" high bandwidth Tektronix current probe it does have performance issues. As a general purpose medium bandwidth current probe it is OK. But,the contact probe functionality and the magnetic field measurement capability make it unique.
Overall a well equipped lab that has multiple standard current probes could ;use this probe for those special cases. But, I would not recommend this probe as the only current probe for a lab.
