The high resolution version (320*240) is good enough to identify objects without a visual image overlay when focused properly. Focus is a bit fiddly but worth the effort. My biggest complaint is with power consumption. High current draw of 65mA or higher, even when off and app is not running. This drastically reduces phone's battery run-time. Only way to fix that is to unplug it, and that causes wear on the connectors. An external power adapter would be very useful. A way to affix it to a tripod, and a micro_usb extension cable would make it even more useful in the lab. Setting range manually is better for outdoor use, to minimize blooming. You can set thermal range manually, but the gray-on-gray of the function menu is hard to see unless viewed head-on. Documentation is sparse. For instance, I can find no mention of the periodic clicking it makes as it recalibrates. Very good, could be outstanding with improvements to software and power management.
