Decent Iron for the money
3.0
For the price I dont think you can go wrong, in terms of getting a iron thats reliable and that you will be able to buy parts for in the future. That being said I think I still prefer my chinese Aoyue branded iron, as it has a much higher thermal capacity, I have done a lot of soldering with this Hakko over the past month, and any large joint or high thermal mass part requires really cranking the irons temperature, or it takes a long time to wet the joint.Contrasting with my cheap and old Aoyue, which I have checked it does hold temperature reasonably accurately, not as well as the Hakko, but it is able to wet very large joints with ease. The cable for the iron is very nice on this unit, and the small footprint is great for a small bench. I think this unit will grow on me once I get more practice with it and get used to it, and for the price you would be hard pressed to beat the build quality.
