The new Rigol DS1104Z Plus now features a digital logic connection next to the USB port. Simply by purchasing the MSO Upgrade Package, users will now have the equivalent of Rigol's MSO scopes. This connection allows users to unlock an additional 16 digital channels on their oscilloscope.

Please note - The number of available analogue channels is reduced by 1 for every block of 8 digital channels in use.

Q: Does the Rigol DS1074Z have the ability to record and play data from memory?
A: Yes. The DS1074Z does have record and playback functions. See the REC-DS1000Z option.

Q: Do you need the AT-DS1000Z Advanced Trigger Option to use the SA-DS1000Z Serial Bus Decoding with the Rigol DS1074Z?
A: No, you do not. You can manually set your triggers and then decode what you captured. However, it makes the process much, much easier if you have correct triggers already built.

Q: When I capture a single trigger event, the only waveform information that is captured is whats on the screen, what can I do to get more capture time ?
A: What you need to do is change ( increase ) the memory depth manually. By default it is in AUTO mode. To increase the memory depth manually, press the ACQUIRE button, then select MEM DEPTH off the display menu, then use the multifunction knob and take it out of AUTO mode and set it the required memory depth. What is usually suggested as a starting point is the setting just before the maximum setting. Recapture the single triggered event and adjust the horizontal knob to move the displayed waveform left or right and confirm that you have captured a longer record length.
Also be aware that the memory depth decreases for each channel that is turned on and this in turn decreases the record length of the capture.

Q: Could you confirm the maximum input voltage for the DS1074Z, using a 1x probe?
A: The Rigol DS1054Z comes with the RP2200 probes. In the 1x mode, the maximum input voltage is: 150Vrms. When in the 10x mode, the maximum input voltage is: 300Vrms. This is approximately equal to 425 VDC, if you consider the peak value. However, its always advised to use a DC Blocking capacitor when working with tube amplifiers with plate voltages over 300 Vdc.

Q: Is there a -S version of the DS1074Z with a built in generator?
A: The DS1074Z has a DS1074-S version with a built in generator.

Q: Is there a M version of the DS1074Z with logic analyzer option?
A: The Rigol DS1074Z does not have a -M version with Logic analyzer.  The MSO1074Z is the 70 Mhz version of this unit with the logic analyzer built in.  This is a hardware change and cannot be added after the purchase.  Keep in mind that Serial Bus Decoding with the Rigol DS1074Z can be done with the SA-DS1000Z software option.

Q: Why is the DS1074Z so inexpensive?
A: This is a question we often get asked about this unit.  It looks fantastic.  Why is it so inexpensive?  The answer to this is somewhat of an opinion here at TEquipment but Rigol wants market share.  They are making waves by having such a great unit at an unbelievable price. We like to see read the reviews.  Our customers write honest feedback. This unit is simply an AMAZING value.

Q: Can the Rigol DS1074Z show me harmonic content and distortion?
A: Yes it can by utilizing the FFT Math function. You can find the information in the User Guide on page 6-16.
FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) is used to transform time domain signals to frequency
domain components (frequency spectrum).
MSO1000Z/DS1000Z oscilloscope provides FFT operation function which enables users to observe the time domain waveform and spectrum of the signal at the same time. FFT operation can facilitate
the following works:
  • Measure harmonic components and distortion in the system
  • Display the characteristics of the noise in DC power
  • Analyze vibration

Q: Is there a way to tell which displayed trace is what channel when I am using more than one channel ? Are the trace colors configurable?
A: The individual trace colors are not configurable, however, each of the displayed traces are different colors that match the color indicated just over the channel connector. Additionally, there are channel labels to the left of the trace which display the number of the corresponding channel for that trace. These labels can be edited. Its important to note that if there is a DC OFFSET on the signal then the trace marker will be offset as well; making it a little more difficult to identify the trace. As a last resort setting the scope to the channel in question and utilizing the vertical position control will also reveal which trace.

Q: When I use the X-Y mode, the refresh rate is really slow. Is there a way to increase it?
A: Yes, when using the X-Y mode, you need to take the memory depth out of AUTO and change it to 6 K.  This will increase the update rate substantially.
