Product Information

The Fluke 1623 and 1625 are distinctive earth ground testers that can perform all four types of earth ground measurement. Specifically, the Fluke 1623 and 1625 testers are able to measure earth ground loop resistances using only clamps – called Stakeless testing. This method doesn’t require the use of earth ground stakes or the disconnection of ground rods.

Testing Methods

  • 3- and 4-Pole Fall of Potential – standard earth ground testing using two ground stakes
  • Selective testing – without disconnecting ground rods, a technician can measure ground resistance using a combination of stakes and a clamp.
  • Stakeless testing – innovative solution using only clamps, instead of ground stakes, to measure earth ground loop resistance.

 

The Fluke 1625 offers these advanced features

  • Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) – identifies existing interference and chooses a measurement frequency to minimize its effect, providing a more accurate earth ground value
  • R* measurement – calculates earth ground impedance at 55 Hz to more accurately reflect the earth ground resistance that a fault-to-earth ground would see.

Q & A

Q: There are many different types of ground and soil tests.  How many different units do I need to buy?
A: The Fluke 1625 KIT GEO is a highly versatile unit, able to perform several different types of tests.  Depending on your application, the unit can perform both staked and stakeless tests, as well as tests with your structure's ground connected or disconnected.
 
Q: Un-attaching the ground at this jobsite will be difficult, but I still need to know if it is good.  Is there a way around that?
A: Yes.  The Fluke 1625 KIT GEO can perform a test called selective measurement.  In this situation, the site's ground does not need to be disconnected and current on the ground can be measured by using a clamp.  Testing in this manner is both safe and fast, cutting down on overall job time.
 
Q: I am in the process of building a structure and need to find a location for its ground.  The building codes mention soil resistance.  Can the Fluke 1625 KIT GEO assist me?
A: Yes.  The Fluke 1625 KIT GEO can be used to measure the resistance of soil at your location.  By using four stakes placed in the soil, the Fluke 1625 KIT GEO passes a known current through the two outermost stakes, and measures voltage drop on the inner two.  By using Ohm's law, the resistance of the soil is automatically calculated.
