I've given this device four stars simply because I haven't had enough time to really dig into it and work with it.

I chose this unit because it had many of the features I liked over the less expensive models. I'm working with tube amplifiers and other so-called antique equipment, so my needs are not the cutting edge for equipment. Take that as you will, this unit is solidly constructed. While it does not have an incredibly high-end feel that you would expect from a premium scientific device, it does have solid controls that respond well. I like that it is constructed adequately and does not take up that much space on my bench.

There is a learning curve with a device of this type. It has many, many functions and capabilities that are explained in the electronic documentation that comes with the unit.

On the tests that I've conducted and the minor work that I've done with it so far, the measurements were accurate. What more can a person ask for? It's a solid unit with a ton of functions and capabilities at a price that's under $1000. I'm happy with the purchase and have no problem recommending it to someone in the market.

Also, Tequipment shipped it quickly and with no hassle. So stop reading this and just buy the thing already - you'll be happy you did.

As a former Tektronix test engineer, who wrote oscilloscope performance test programs, I know a little about scopes.
I needed a low cost bench scope in my office for general purpose needs, and I wanted one with a physical front panel, which ruled out a using a usb based scope. Other than the negatives which I will only highlight, the scope offers features and performance which make it worth the money.
Cons: 1. Some descriptions, mention low noise, but it is not specified well in publications. In fact the analog pre-amp is low in uncorrelated noise, which shows up when using the sensitive input settings. But when you increase the volts/div setting the white noise stays at about 2 lsb of the 8 bit converter, thus rendering the 8 bit digitizer to only 6 bits. I have not confirmed this with effective bits calulation or measurement, but the realistic effect is that the trace has a "fat" component which masks low level detail, and is much worse than any of my other digital oscilloscopes. I have gone over this problem with the Rigol techs, and it does seem to be inherent in the design.
2. The probes supplied are cheap and do not grab well , and the ground clips fail to open very wide, and will not grab thin wire because the jaws are sloppy.
3. The user interface has some weaknesses. I would call some of the idiosyncrasies, real sw bugs. Due to the complexity of the interface, it can be hard to duplicate the sequence of setting to duplicate any hiccups that occur. But when it happens, I'am busy and don't have time to document them. But suffice the setting can go awry at times, requiring some sort of reset.
4. Fan noise is too high. The only positive about the fan is , I know when the scope is on without looking.

Fact is , I have work to do on designing a digitally controlled motor, and this scope has been very useful for that .
