Preamplified Probe lets you Measure Tiny Signals Without Loading! FET/MMIC Preamp in Probe Broadband gain Light loading. A few years ago while teaching a pager repair class, we were having trouble measuring low level crystal oscillators. We tried our PR-2 preamp with a scope probe, but since the PR-2 is 50 ohms and the scope probe 1 Megohm, we didn’t have much luck. A survey of available preamplified probes sent us into shock - $700 to $1,700! Now there’s a business to be in, and so we are, but not at such outrageous prices. Our probe is actually a custom designed and manufactured scope probe with some very tiny parts on a very tiny PC board-inside the probe! An FET with an MMIC amplifier provides for 15 dB of gain from 450 KHz to over 150 MHz. We cleverly send the power up the slender scope lead, not requiring any extra wiring or a thick ungainly cable. An included AC adapter connects to a small power inserter box. You’ll find tons of uses for this probe, low level signals won’t be hidden in the noise oblivious to your measuring!
