Fiber optic network bids and Requests For Quote (RFQ) often have specified
cabling standards (such as fiber length) that the network installer must follow
during the installation, since adherence to these standards ensures the quality of the
installation and guarantees that the network will perform as it was designed. The
certification of a network installation often requires hard-copy documentation as proof of
adherence to standards.
The Fiber OWL 4C/Laser OWL Test Kit contains the tools necessary for
certifying fiber optic links against a myriad of popular cabling standards
in multimode and singlemode networks. The Fiber OWL 4C optical power meter is both
multimode and singlemode ready. The values of up to 1000 fiber runs can be stored
in order to measure optical loss; These measurements can be downloaded onto a computer
via a serial port, and reports can be generated using the OWL Reporter software
(included). The filtered detector in the Fiber OWL 4C makes it ideal for high powered applications
such as TELCO and CATV.
The Laser OWL fiber optic light source is designed for accurate
testing and certification of singlemode (1310nm & 1550nm) networks. Its dual-wavelength
outputs are temperature-stabilized for accurate measurements.
Both of these units fit into the sturdy carrying case (included), and each unit comes with
a rubber boot to further protect it from everyday use and abuse.
