A precision test-signal source for both component and NTSC composite systems, the Model 425A operates in BetacamÒ or MII formats, GBR components and NTSC composite. For component needs GBR or Y, R-Y, B-Y (3 wire) feeds are provided. The latter is tailored to Betacam or MII specifications. In addition, Y and time-compressed chroma in the CTCM or CTDM format (2 wire) may be selected. All signals are synthesized from a 10-bit D/A to provide both precision and long-term stability. The unit is set to Betacam or MII signal specifications with a dedicated ROM. Component test signals include those tailored for linearity and transient response in component systems as well as a new (patent pending) timing signal, the shark fin, that provides timing measurements over a wide frequency range. Composite test signals include color bars, 50% white and color-bar, red raster, pulse/bar and modulated and unmodulated staircase. Setup is front-panel switchable to 7.5% or zero. A standard dub connector provides direct connection to Betacam or MII systems, and the generator accepts source selector settings from a compatible recorder that receives its drive from the dub connector. |
