This is an excellent unit. It pays for itself after the first use. Works as intended and saves you a lot of headaches. Comes with extra filters and tool to service the unit. Replacement tips in different sizes can be purchased but the tops seem to last pretty long depending on how you maintain them. U.S. Say the only downfall is it is a bit big/bulky but the usefulness of this unit way outwits any negative. You won't be dissapointed.

I purchased this unit in February. I am in the process of restoring a 1974 Seeburg Jukebox. I had removed some components with a standard solder station and one of those plastic "suckers', but due to the age of the PC boards, some of the lands were still coming off of the board from the heat. This unit works just as well as the bench top commercial units I used as a medical equipment technician. And for the hobbyist the price makes it an affordable alternative to plastic suckers and the desoldering wick. I plan to use it on some much older antique radios which are point-to-point wired, so I purchased a larger tip due to the greater volume of solder.

I have 2 Hakko soldering stations. My first I bought 25 years ago and it's still going strong. When Tequipment introduced their new model last year I decided to get another, as I have one bench for my business and another for hobby pursuits. This desoldering pump is of the same high quality as those Hakko stations and I would highly recommend it to anyone contemplating a purchase.

Love this desoldering tool!

I use this for working on vintage synthesizers snd video games. I researched desoldering tools carefully and selected this gun.

The unit works very well and only needs cleaning about every 50 or so desoldering operations. Cleaning is a very quick painless operation. I've used it for a couple of years and it still has the original filter in it, although it's about to go. Plenty of spare filters come with it.

I did a full recap on an OB-Xa and lots of smaller jobs of probably 10 synths. I think only one size tip comes with it so you need to get the larger tip if you want to do stuff like large transformer wires.

It's well balanced and heats up pretty quickly. Would be nice if the cord was more flexible. It's kind of stiff and takes a set when coiled for a while. The plastic carrying case is of nice construction as well.

A bit on the expensive side at first, but you'll have no regrets if you've been using solder wick.

My one trick that's not in the manual is when you get the joint good and melted, "wiggle" the tip around a bit to move the wire around in the pcb hole for a good, full cleanout.

I have read about the 808, and finally took th plunge..
I bought a few extras tips, stand, extra filters, etc..
Well it is my 'go to' tool on the work bench..
Great for circuit boards, and also antique electronics, test gear, and radios that I do most of my work with.... I had been using my 808 at home and work, and talked my boss into buying me one just for work....

Great device..
I have two recommendations for the next version..
1- a 'power' light to indicate it is 'on ' & hot..too eay to forget to unplug it..
2- a longer , thinner , more flexible cord, silicone would be nice

Every once in a while you purchase a new tool that make it's intended work so easy - you don't know how you ever did without it. This is such a tool.

From the first moment of use it's apparent your quality of work just went up. The time you spend on a project just went down. Using this desoldering iron to rebuild an old Heathkit Tube Tester has made the difficult chore of removing components from old style solder lug construction a breeze. Use on a dual sided PC board and removing RS-232 connectors (for example) without lifting a trace - this is what you need.

Hakko Despldering tool

I bought this tool in the hopes that it would work for removing IC's and other components from PC boards. I wasn't all that sure that it had enough suction to match the larger and more expensive commercial units.
When the tool arrived I put it to the test. WOW was I amazed at its performance. In a number of cases capacitors would just drop off the board. It took a bit of getting use to before I realized that rotating the tool while desoldering IC's would loosen the pins as well as the solder inside of the plated thru holes.
One tip for others is to use the long probe to keep
the solder from sticking to the inside of the suction
portion. The large reservoir holds quite a bit of removed solder and is very quick and easy to remove and empty.
To say that I am satisfied would be a bit of an injustice. This is a professional grade desoldering tool and a worthwhile investment for any of your desoldering needs.

I was a bit apprehensive when I ordered the Hakko 808. Having "butchered" several double sided PC boards, while changing out caps and other stubborn components, I decided it was time to get serious. The 808 zipped through several other boards I was working on without any mishaps. It did a very nice, clean job of removing components. So far, I have had very good luck with this unit, and I would recommend it to save yourself tons of grief. The only complaint I have is I think the tips are a bit pricey and thus, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, a very nice unit for my work.
