I purchased the VT04 in December with a list price of $1195 with a manufacturer's $400 rebate. The current list price as of today is $695 so the previous price was artificially high.
The VT04 performed well although the screen size could be a little larger. I plan to use it in automotive applications to pinpoint mechanical issues. There are a number of software features (color of heat map, emissivity, which are of limited value without calibration. One frustrating drawback on this instrument is that while it has a mini-usb connection for charging only, it does not connect via USB to your computer. In order to transfer thermal images to your computer, you must first remove the micro USB card, insert it into the SD card adapter and connect it to a SD card reader. Very time consuming. For an instrument of this cost, not having the proper drivers written and available is a cardinal sin. This will make firmware upgrades time consuming as well, if Fluke is even planning these.
I believe this design was released prematurely in light of possible competition from soon to be released infrared-capable cellphone cameras.
