The 488-200 is a hand held, low cost battery powered, digital audio analyzer for quick analysis and monitoring of digital AES/EBU signals. The AES input is on a balanced XLR connector, while the SPDIF is via an unbalanced RCA-phono adapter (Optional). The AES/EBU input can be switched to high impedance for daisy-chain connection of the signal. The available information on channel status bits and signal errors are displayed on the front panel, by means of colored LEDs. The instrument logs the most significant error occurred during the measuring session. The 488-200 includes a high quality D/A converter, so that the signal can be monitored through headphones, with adjustable volume control. The minijack output connector can be used by means of an adapter, to connect external analog measuring devices.
The 488-200 is battery operated. The optional AC-adapter can charge the rechargeable batteries and supply power to the unit at the same time. When battery powered, the unit automatically switches off if no AES/EBU signal is present for more than 15 sec. A Battery Low LED provides indication on the status of the batteries. The 488-200 is compact and handy, and can be carried in a pocket.
